UNICORN
Welcome to UNICORN – the University Network for CO₂ in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Area
Cities are both major contributors to global CO₂ emissions and critical arenas for climate mitigation. UNICORN responds to this dual role by establishing a dense urban greenhouse gas monitoring network in Heidelberg and Mannheim—two cities committed to achieving climate neutrality. With 18 BEACO₂N sensors measuring CO₂ alongside co-emitted species such as CO, NOₓ, and PM2.5, UNICORN delivers high-resolution atmospheric data to track urban emissions. This enables independent detection of local emission changes, supporting policy evaluation and targeted mitigation planning down to the district scale.
