The German Physical Society (DPG) awarded Emeritus Prof. Dr. Ulrich Platt with the "Ehrennadel" (badge of honour) recognizing his distinguished and longstanding commitment for establishing the branch Environmental Physics within the DPG and for connecting Environmental Physicists across Germany and the world (link to DPG press release). Ulrich Platt, together with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Röther, was a driving force behind the foundation of the branch Environmental Physics of DPG in the year 1998 and he has been at the forefront of shaping the branch since then - notably as its chair and deputy chair for many years.
For many years, Ulrich Platt also has been shaping the Institute of Environmental Physics in Heidelberg and its role within the DPG based on outstanding scientific expertise, deep interest in new developments and emerging scientific questions and collegial prudence and foresight. Heartfelt congratulations to Ulrich Platt for this great honour and many thanks for his commendable commitment.
