Impact of Nord Stream gas leaks on methane concentrations at ICOS stations in Scandinavia:
ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System) is a european infrastructure for the observation of the carbon cycle. The IUP Heidelberg hosts the central radiocarbon lab of ICOS.
The ICOS station Hyltemossa in Sweden observed significantly elevated CH4 concentrations the day before yesterday when the wind blew from the NordStream leaks to the station. Several ICOS stations in Scandinavia have by now also registered strong methane enhancements. Together with atmospheric transport models, such measurements will enable an estimation of the emitted amount of gas.
