  • February 2016: We have moved the ICPQMS from the Geosciences Building to Environmental Physics as the snow was falling. Now the big and small instrument are united.
  • February 2016: The cruise off Namibia and Angola ended as a great success. We are eager to receive the samples.
  • February 2016: We have a new member in the team. Lucile Bonneau studied Geology at University Paris-Sud (Orsay - France) and she obained her PhD in cooperation between IFERMER (Brest) and University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. She recently was post doctoral researcher at University Orsay within the frame of the ANR - HAMOC project. She will continue her research on cold-water corals and climate change in our team. Welcome
  • February 2016: Thomas Krengel finished his Master Thesis on the reconstruction of coral growth environments off Morocco and within the Alboran Sea. Excellent work.
  • January 2016: Cold‐water corals (CWC) are the engineers of large deep‐sea ecosystems along most of the world's continental margins. Anne-Marie Weifing and Réne Eichstädter, two members of the working group, join the Meteor Expedition M122 ANNA to investigate the CWC in the upwelling area off Namibia and Angola, where so far knowledge about the occurrence of CWC is rather sparse.   • October 2015: New Master projects will start and we will have a first time group retreat for 4 days in which scientific writting will be the key subject. We are greatful to the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation for the provided support

  • September 2015: Henrik Eckhardt has finished his Bachelor Thesis on the first measurements of the Li/Mg ratio of corals using laser ablation ICPQMS - excellent work
  • August 2015: The lecture Tracers in Sea hosted as a one week block cours was a great experience that was concluded with excellent summary talks of the students presenting some recent key publications. Also in August was the 25th Goldschmidt Conference in Prag, where the team did a great appearance through posters and talks.

  • July 2015: Niclas Rieger has finished his Bachelor Thesis on the study of Li/Mg, 14C and Nd-isotopes of glacial corals off Morocco, with exciting progress on the glacial subtropical east - Atlantic.
  • July 2015: Hannah Nowitzki has finished her Master Thesis on the modelling of the paleo-seawater U- isotopic composition and extending the paleo-seawater 234U/238U-ratio database.
  • July 2015: Alexander Hubig has finished his Bachelor in Geoscience on the modelling of cave drip water and carbonate radiocarbon. A significant progress towards the selection of appropriate stalagmites for radiocarbon - calibration studies.
  • June 2015: The Neptune Plus - MC-ICPMS is installed and operational.

  • April 2015: Marleen Lausecker has finished her Bachelor work on the use of Li/Mg ratios in deep sea corals to reconstruct paleo-seawater temperatures. She has produced a unquie record of deglacial east Atlantic temperature variations, we congratulate

  • April 2015: Simon Ritter has finished his master project on the hydrological patterns and geochemical seasonality of the Karst water precipitating tufa near Greding. We are grateful for his excellent work

  • March 2015: Jens Fohlmeister has choosen to move to Potsdam, and we greatly acknowledge his outstanding work in our team since 2012. Hard to imagine how we can replace him. We wish him all the best for his future and hope to see him regularly.

  • February 2015: The Laser Ablation system (a 193 nm excimer laser) has been put together. A great moment after weeks of stand-by due to the lack of the laser carrier gas. Now we look forward starting the first measurements using the coupling laser ablation to inductively coupled plasma source mass spectrometry.

  • May 2014: TIMS was moved successfully.

  • May 2014: We will move the mass spectrometer in new laboratories to clear the old room for constructional renovations. The ICAP was moved successfully
  • April 2014: Start of summer term with the new specialising lecture "Physics of Environmental Archives"
  • February 2014: research vessel cruise MoccoMeBo coordinated by Center for Marine Environmental Sciences MARUM. We, Norbert Frank and Thomas Krengel are on board of the research vessel Merian. Coral reef cores close to Morocco using the new MEBO sea-floor drill rig are bored to investigate the corals and local oceans' circulation history.
  • February2014: Completion of Evelyn Böhm's PhD thesis on "Reconstruction of the Atlantic Circulation during the Last Glacial Cycle."
